Crane Township – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating a commercial vehicle fire on US 24 near US 127 north of the Village of Paulding, in Crane Township. At 2:45 PM Tuesday, the Crane Township Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial semi-truck fire.

A 2013 Kenworth Semi driven by Jaspal Dosanjh, age 33, of Brampton, Ontario was eastbound on US 24 when he observed smoke coming from the trailer. He pulled onto the side of the road and observed that the rear tires of the trailer were on fire. Mr. Dosanjh attempted to extinguish the fire with his fire extinguisher, but was unable to due to the amount of smoke and flames. Mr. Dosanjh unhooked his trailer and pulled the tractor away before the fire reached it.

By 4:00 PM the Crane Township Volunteer Fire Department with assistance from the Paulding Fire Department was able to have the fire under control. The trailer and load of oranges were a total loss. Mr. Dosanjh was not injured.

The Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Crane Township Fire Department, Paulding Fire Department and EMS, Ohio Department of Transportation, Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, and Paulding County EMA.

The cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation.
