Antwerp Chamber Day in the Park HP BWBy: Stan Jordan

This year, 2014, the Antwerp Chamber of Commerce has set together what they think will be the best ever Day in the Park.

The Chamber President, Nancy Lichty, tells me they have contacted lots of vendors and concession people, more than ever before.

There will be a pancake and sausage breakfast at the EMS building starting at 7:00 a.m. in the morning. The big parade will form up at the AHS football field. The parade starts at 10:00 a.m. The parade goes west on Canal Street then turns north on Main Street to Rd. 424 or E. River Street then on to Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Festivities start at 11:00 a.m. at the park. They will post the colors and the mayor will speak. Then the award of the Gem of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. They will have the Dance Dolls, the Alley Cats, a dance group of ladies over 60 from Fort Wayne and the Community Band. There will be a pie baking contest, and plenty of parking at the Methodist Church parking lot.

A duck race is being hosted by the Music Boosters. A 50/50 drawing will be held by the Chamber of Commerce. The Maumee Express will be running for the children to ride. Some new games and food concessions will help us wet our whistles.

A classic car cruise in will be conducted by Dan Bowers and Larry Copsey. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office will be having a K-9 demonstration.

The final activity of the day will be a flag burning ceremony to close the day. If you have a flag to get rid of bring it.
