Thursday, October 16 the Antwerp Local School Board met for the monthly meeting. Rachel Becker was presented an award – A Commended Student for the National Merit Scholar Program. This is due to her high PSAT scores.

Dennis Recker gave the Vantage Report. New signage will be put up for the new construction going on.

Treasurer, Christine Stuart, gave her report. There was $590,896.16 in receipts, $640,042.48 in Expenditures, and $2136.81 in interest. The 5 year forecast for the school district – Income should increase .5% from last year along with a 2% increase in expenditures. Deficit spending projected for years ’16-19. The levy expires this next fiscal year. It needs board approval by December of this year and submitted in January for the election. $500,000 is the amount currently received from the levy.
October 17 end the first quarter and the grades must be reported by all the teachers by that date.

Principal Bute reported Jassmine Reyes helped get the new NHS members inducted. Mike Bute was pleased with all of the new inductees in both high school and middle school. Jostens will be back on October 23. If seniors do not get their information turned back in by the scheduled date they must order online.

Mr. Manz reported the mobile dentistry served 21 students in k-12. A portable iMax projector was rented for a movie – Jumanji – and a video on bullying. The projected movie was moved inside.

October 24 the state patrol will be at Antwerp for practice with bus safety. Nov 18 – Mix 98.1 will be at the school for “Fill the Bus” with presents for Christmas for Kids Live Drive in association with Van Crest of Antwerp. The live drive will then move to West Bend News since it has the prominent location in Antwerp.

Pat Ross said the choir concert has been postponed to Monday, October 20 due to the Volleyball tournament being here.

A Building and grounds committee will be established. The building is now 11 years old and Pat would like to establish a committee because the building is not new anymore and regular upkeep is critical for keeping an excellent structure in place.

The new laptops ordered last month have arrived and another order has now been put in for another 125, with the boards approval along with the other consent items.
The HVAC has been tested much more and Harold is looking for a good savings on this years bills over last year.

Hand foot and mouth virus is making its rounds at the facility. This does make people wonder about safety outbreaks for diseases, especially with Ebola now prominent in the news. Pat said they are keeping in contact with the health department. She had a conference call with state officials who are attempting to address Ebola concerns. The custodians and teachers are working to keep desks and other contact items to be cleansed and sanitized.

The Homework load on students was brought up again by one of the board members. It’s important to make sure the students do well while not putting many hours burden of homework on them.

It was asked, “Can the school have three hour delays?” This day of school was cancelled by dense fog but ironically cleared quickly after the announcement came out.

The consent items were all approved.
