“We finally have our own training room,” excitedly says the wrestling coach at Wayne Trace High School. For years the wrestling team has found its home practice room moved around in various places in the building. From the cafeteria to the second story behind the bleachers, the wrestlers have not had a place to call their own… until now.

Coach George Clemens announced the school has finally set aside a dedicated room just for the wrestling team. The room was previously a combination of training/bathroom and a classroom. A couple of walls were removed and the entire 40×60’ room was ready to be finished with new paint, mats and now include the record boards for the past and present wrestlers of Wayne Trace.

With the approval of the school board, the Athletic boosters and the school are constructing two brand new concession stands with upper floor press boxes, and they should be ready for action just in time for the spring baseball and softball teams to make great use of both.

Both of these are a great addition to the Raider Nation of sports excellence.
At Antwerp, there are new projects happening and one that recently finished.
For the basketball season, a new addition to the scoreboard will display the players, fouls, and points. This will bring the boys and the girls games up to date for the 2014-15 basketball season.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe next addition is a brand new baseball diamond. This field has been a work in progress for quite some time, now finally becoming a reality. “Booster” Field will be retired as the new field, next to the softball diamond will be ready to go in about three years time.

The Booster Field was difficult to access, especially for the older people who needed more assistance.

The new field being constructed, is just south of the current softball diamond. Walt Kauser of Kauser Excavating in Paulding said they had started this early last week and will have most of the heavy work done within a couple of weeks. The tiling will be installed in the ground this week by Kennedy Excavating in Antwerp. Next, the topsoil will be added. The ground will be given all winter to rest and settle into place, ready for the finish work to be done including the fences and the red clay put into place for the beautiful new field for the Archer baseball team.

It will be an exciting day to step out onto a new field for the first time, knowing there will be generations following them. They have a lot to look forward to and high standards to set for the coming years.
