Carl Jacob Tope, age 93 died Tuesday, February 12 at the Country Inn Enhanced Living Center, Paulding, Ohio.
He was born November 23, 1919 in Paulding County, Ohio the son of Elza and Emma (Hubert) Tope. On November 21, 1942 he married Eleanor M. (Riggenbach, who preceded him in death on February 13, 2001. He retired in 1985 from GM Powertrain, Defiance, Ohio as a millwright. He was a United States Amy Air Corp Veteran of WWII, serving as a ball turret gunner on a B17 in the 603rd Squadron, 398th Bomb Group 8th Air Force; a member of the Friends United Methodist Church of Latty, Ohio; John Paulding Historical Society Life Member; Paulding V.F.W. Post #587 Life Member; Paulding Eagles #2405 Life Member; and a member of UAW #211.
He is survived by three daughters, Connie J. Scarpelli, Bay Village, Ohio, Diane K. (Kevin) Bair, Van Wert, OH, and Tamara J. (Jack) Drahus, Milwaukee, WI; two sisters, Catherine Stoller, Paulding, and Margaret (Bill) Clemens, Latty; grandchildren, Amanda (Don) Megliola, Aaron (Shelly) Scarpelli, Bryce Kreischer, Tracie (Jeff) Taylor, Darcie and Nicholas Drahus ; and great grandchildren Don Thomas and Ella Megliola, and Ryan Scarpelli.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Janet Sue Tope, three brothers, Wilbur, August, and Ira Tope; two sisters, Maxine Riggenbach and Dorathea Blue.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Saturday, February 23 at Friends United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Blue Creek Cemetery, Haviland.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 22 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
