In two and half weeks there have been two fatalities at the intersection of US 24 and CR 87.
These accidents are not just numbers, they are friends and family.
US Highway 24 has been a great asset to the areas connecting New Haven, Fort Wayne and Toledo. It has come at a high cost though – lives of many people you and I know have been taken through the years because of this highway. No, I don’t think the highway itself is the cause, but if there is a way change it to make it safer shouldn’t we?
The stretch of land around CR 87 near Cecil, OH has been known as Dead Man’s Curve for years, long before the four lane road was constructed. The new highway was to make it safer for motorists. I don’t believe it has. US highways such as US 30 and US 24 are notorious for fatalities at the roads that cross with no on/off ramps such as on Interstates such as 69 or 75.
The situation reminds me of the song by Bob Dylan: ‘Blowin in the Wind’ How long will take until we realize It’s time for a change?
As long as these intersections exist I recommend people take another route. Perhaps taking roads where bridges have been built over the 4 lanes instead of trying navigate across 70 MPH traffic traveling in opposite directions.
It’s going to take interaction and working with officials who can make a difference.
What solutions do you propose?
