James Milan Herzog, loving husband and beloved father and grandpa, passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Pickering House, Lancaster, OH. He was born on July 11, 1940 in Fort Wayne, IN. He was a graduate of South Side High School class of 1958 and Indiana Institute of Technology University in 1963. James served in the U.S. Navy as a statistician at the Great Lakes Exam Center, IL. He was a Certified Professional Engineer employed by General Electric in Fort Wayne and then by Anchor Hocking in Lancaster as a Project Engineer, where he was awarded patents for his work in the closure division. He was honored as a Senior Fellow for contribution to the success of the sealing machine business within the packaging group. He retired as a Senior Design Engineer after 30 years with Anchor Hocking/Crown Cork and Seal.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia (Bruns) Herzog; 3 children, Thomas (Sandra) and Timothy all of Lancaster; daughter, Tonya (Thomas) Tannehill of Canal Winchester; 4 grandchildren, James and Emily Herzog and Alex and Amy Tannehill; 2 brothers, Frank (Margaret) Herzog, Huntington, IN and Kerry Miller of Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Joseph (Lucile) Herzog; mother, Marjorie (Wire) Herzog Miller and step father Daniel Miller.
He was an avid photographer who had recorded family celebrations with photos, slides, movies and videos since he was in High School. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing his photography. He valued his family and friends: they will hold him in their hearts.
Friends may call from 2-5 pm Sunday, October 27, in the Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 28 at 10:30 am in Emanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Raddatz officiating.
