Antwerp Climbs to the Top at Route 49 Tournament

Annually the Route 49 boys basketball tournament takes place at various schools on the Ohio State highway. Last year the Antwerp school hosted the event. This year all four schools travelled back north to the town of Edon. The event took place Friday and Saturday, December 27 and 28.

The first game took place with Hicksville taking on Edgerton. The Aces fell in the first round 41-57, sending the Bulldogs to play the winner of the second game.

Edon was the home team taking on the Antwerp in the second game on Friday night. The Archers worked hard and earned another win at 41-49. The Antwerp boys proved they can play well under pressure. Kaden Brummett scored 14 points and Derek Smalley scored 13.

Saturday night started with the teams who lost the first round on Friday which included Edon vs Hicksville. The Aces hammered the Bombers with a 73-51 win.

Antwerp took on Edgerton for the championship game of the tournament and it was close. At the end of the third quarter Antwerp was down 36-39, but the Archers came back to win by one point 55-54.
