The Antwerp Local School Board met for the first meeting of the year with addition of two new members: Robert Herber and Kipp Taylor. Anita Bok was reelected. The board nominated Dennis Recker and approved him as the new president. Mark Ryan was elected as the new vice president.
Anita Bok also took on the job of Student Achievement Liaison and Bob Herber volunteered for Legislative Liaison.
Dennis Recker noted Jack Palmer, who is normally here from the Defiance Crescent, passed away and mentioned he would be missed by the board members.
There was no report for Vantage since there hadn’t been a meeting in between.
Kristine Stuart gave the treasurer’s report and it was approved.
High School Principal Mike Bute gave his report and was mainly about Engineering Your Future (EYF). Teacher, Cord Ehrhart took over and talked about a chair the students made. It weighed only 3 pounds and can hold 200 lbs. or more. He explained how good the problem solving of the kids’ is and how important it will be to these young people throughout their entire lives. Do you want to be an engineer? After a project like this the kids will know if they like the field or not. This was their first Civil Engineering design project through team building. Jacob O’Donnell, Steven Bowers, Kaden Brummett were the designers of the winning chair.
Bute also reported Amy Barnhart will be here on Monday, January 13 6:30 in the Auditieria, helping students and parents with college aid including scholarships.
Feb 14 – will end the 3rd nine week term. It was delayed due to missing days of school from the weather. The Winter Wonderland Dance fundraiser will be Saturday, January 11th 8-10:30 pm
Superintendent Pat Ross said January is Board of Education Recognition Month throughout the nation. She presented certificates to the incumbents on the board: Anita, Mark, and Dennis.
