If you were not there, you missed a very good game!
Due to all of the weather and tournament schedule changes, the Woodlan vs Antwerp Boys Basketball game was moved to Monday, February 10 at the Archer home gym.
The game started close with the first quarter giving Antwerp the lead at 11-13. The second quarter had a strange first 4 minutes as Antwerp more than doubled their Warrior opponents. Coach Randall took a timeout to get the boys back in the game and it worked. Woodlan’s Kadin Gerig hit 3 – 3 point baskets in a row, in his personal best game, and the momentum turned back. The halftime score was 26-27 in Antwerp’s favor, as they struggled to hold on to their lead.
The second half started with Greg White and Woodlan quickly posting a five point lead. Antwerp reciprocated with Kaden Brummet and Copsey both making quick returns to the basket. With Smalley being fouled and making his free-throw shots, it brought the game right back together with the score tied at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter showed the offense for both teams were working, burning up the courts and the crowds were wild for their teams. Both scored 22 points and the game went into overtime.
With 1.3 seconds left on the clock in the short overtime period, Antwerp was down by two points to Woodlan. Sam Williamson got the ball and scored a 3-point shot placing Antwerp in the lead by one and the game finished at 69-68. Both teams were well matched at this cross state competition game.
