Hope Rocks Antwerp
If you’ve been around the Antwerp area recently, you may have noticed some graffiti art on the ginormous snow banks at various business, houses and buildings. The “Hope Rocks” logo is part of a campaign to raise awareness about suicide prevention. A person by the name of Darick Reed started a Hope Army last summer and he walked 1,264 miles around four states to raise awareness for suicide prevention. He lives in Montana, and picked up on the news of three students in the past two months that have committed suicide at the Butte, Montana High School. This sparked in him to start a Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/SendHopeRocks.
Hope Rocks shows the families who lost their children a little support, and the town as well. For more information or to keep up to date about this organization go to this website – http://meagainstfear.com/hoperocks/
Antwerp is no stranger to the devastation of suicide loss. A huge Facebook event is set to take place when Darick visits the Butte Montana School on March 7th. To join in, follow this link, https://www.facebook.com/events/680220328700674/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming
This is a list of the Antwerp businesses that have joined in the “Hope Rocks” campaign: West Bend News, Riverside Christian Church, Antwerp Branch Library, Riverside Hardware, River Street Market, Antwerp Community Church, Oasis Bar & Grill, First Baptist Church, The Arch (ACYC), and the Antwerp Local School. The slogan didn’t stop with businesses though; there were many houses that also donned the inspiring message.
The news of Antwerp’s involvement and interest in spreading Hope Rocks, reached across the country to Darick Reed and he posted a picture on Facebook of him holding a sign, “Antwerp Rocks!” with the word ‘hope’ in the ‘O’ of ‘Rocks’.
In this time of year when all seems so cold, dark and bleak, it’s good to know that Hope still Rocks!
