The Boys advance to the Bowling Green Regionals
Ayersville and Wayne Trace competed against one another Friday, March 7 at Van Wert after winning their third game of the tournament against Edgerton. The Raiders defeated Pettisville to advance to this championship match. It was a packed stadium at the high school.
The Raiders entered the boys basketball tournament with the determination they were going to win. This match, honestly, wasn’t even close. The game had Wayne Trace nearly doubling the score of their competitor in every quarter. The first was a little slow, remembered by many fouls. The first quarter ended at a lowly score of 9-4. The second quarter picked the scoring pace up for both teams and the half ended at 24-12 in the Raider favor.
The second half was not much different and Wayne Trace dominated the court. The Ayersville fans started to trickle out of the fieldhouse at the end of the third quarter. The entire Raider team worked together, burning up the court. Ethan Linder, Colby Speice and Corbin Linder all scored 3 point baskets.
The game may have been closer if the Pilots could have landed a few more of the free throw shots. Out of 15 attempts only 3 were made by the home team. The Raiders don’t have much to brag about in the free throw area either for this game. Out of 9 attempts only 2 counted and this must be worked on for the Regional matchup Wayne Trace is heading to at Bowling Green.
Wayne Trace finished the game with the win 53-25. The Raiders will travel to BGSU on March 11 at 6:15 pm to take on New Washington Buckeye Central.
