Katherine Smith, 96, formerly of Woodburn, Indiana, died Monday, July 14, 2014 at Golden Years Homestead, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
She was born on November 18, 1917 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, the daughter of the late George and Bertha (Swartz) Irwin.
Katherine was a 1935 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School.
On September 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to Charles Smith. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2001.
Katherine was a member of United Methodist Church, Woodburn, Indiana where she was very active in church and women’s ministries. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes football fan and was present during the dedication of the Shoe on The Ohio State University campus. She was a passionate reader which led to many years as a library volunteer.
Katherine is survived by a son- David (Kendra) Smith; a daughter- Carolyn Ann Dauterman; grandchildren- David (Missy) Dauterman, Jr., Jeffrey (Rhonda) Dauterman, Chistopher (Jean Marie) Dauterman, Melissa (Carl) Seal, Ryan (Tasha) Smith, Sean Smith, Lindsay Mahaffey; and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four siblings- Fredrick Irwin, Adda Zimmerman, George Irwin and John Irwin.
Visitation for Katherine will be Friday from 6:00-8:00 and Saturday at 9:00 at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, Ohio. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Memorial may be made to Heartland Hospice, Woodburn Christian Children’s Home or Golden Year Homestead.
