Smoke Testing Sewers Starts July 16

CITY OF NEW HAVEN TO PERFORM SMOKE TESTING ON SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM

smoke test sewerNew Haven, IN – The City of New Haven Department of Public Works has been evaluating the sewers throughout neighborhoods in New Haven.

The City will be performing smoke testing to complete the overall evaluation. Smoke testing in the downtown area, from Lincoln Highway to Rose Avenue between Green Street and Broadway Street will begin July 16, 2014 and may take several weeks to complete.

Director of Engineering Keith Schlegel said, “We are performing a thorough evaluation of our sanitary sewer system. The evaluation is necessary because during heavy rain events, the sewer system in our neighborhoods is causing raw sewage to back up into some basements and causing the manholes to periodically overflow.”
