Three people were hurt Sunday in a two-minivan crash in Paulding County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said today.
Police said Lewis Belcher, 72, of Paulding was driving west on County Road 232 about 9:10 a.m. when he failed to yield at County Road 143 and collided with a minivan driven by Shirley Hunsaker, 72, of Grover Hill.
Hunsaker’s minivan spun off the roadway, overturning into a cornfield before coming to rest on its side in a ditch, police said. They said Belcher’s minivan came to rest in the cornfield.
Hunsaker was taken to Defiance Regional Medical Center, then to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment of her life-threatening injuries, police said. Her passenger, Dewayne Hunsaker, also was taken to Defiance and to Fort Wayne for treatment.
Belcher was treated at Paulding County Hospital and released, police said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and all were wearing seat belts, police said. The air bags in both vehicles deployed.
The crash remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene were the Paulding County sheriff’s office, EMS and volunteer firefighters.
