Patrol Investigates Fatal Crash
Sherwood – The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash at approximately 5:20 PM within the intersection of Buckskin Road and Openlander Road in Mark Township, Defiance County, near the village of Sherwood.
A 2006 Pontiac Torrent driven by 53 year old Dawn Murphy of Toledo was westbound on Buckskin Road and failed to stop at the posted stop sign at Openlander Road.
A 2011 GMC Terrain driven by 28 year old Wade Rethmel of Sherwood was northbound on Openlander road and struck the Murphy vehicle. Both vehicles overturned multiple times and traveled off the northwest corner of the intersection.
Dawn Murphy did not survive the collision, and Wade Rethmel was transported via ProMedica Air Ambulance to Parkview North Hospital in Fort Wayne. Both drivers were wearing safety belts.
The Highway Patrol was assisted by Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, Sherwood Fire and EMS, and ProMedica Air Ambulance. The crash remains under investigation.
Highway Patrol Investigates Serious Injury Crash on State Route 18
Hicksville Township: The Defiance Post is investigating a Serious Injury Traffic Crash that occurred around 12:17am on September 13, 2014. The crash occurred on State Route 18 near Casebeer Miller Rd in Hicksville Township in Defiance County.
A silver 2007 Cadillac CTS driven by Oscar Pieper (58) of Paulding, was south east bound on SR 18 when he struck the side of a trailer. The trailer was being backed into a private drive, by Justin Binder (21) of Hicksville. Mr. Binder was driving a red 2008 Chevrolet
Silverado. Mr. Binder was not injured and neither were his passengers, Krysha Alexander (19) of Monroeville In, Trisha Kimple (27) of Hicksville and Mike Kimple (27) of Hicksville. Mr. Pieper and his wife Susan Pieper (57) were transported by Air Ambulance to Parkview Hospital where they are in stable condition. All parties involved were wearing safety belts. The crash remains under investigation.
Assisting on scene was the Hicksville Police Department, the Defiance County Sherriff’s Office, Hicksville Fire and EMS, Promedica air Ambulance, and Samaritan Life Flight.
