The Edgerton Bulldogs travelled to the Wayne Trace field on Friday, October 10. The football game started with Edgerton scoring the first touchdown. Duane Miller passed the ball to Alex Michael for the score, then adding two points in the next play. Wayne Trace’s Tyler Showalter scored the first points for the home team on a 32 yard run. Jake Dingus added two more for the points after, finishing the quarter at 8-8.
The first quarter also saw a bad accident. A fumble on the play and both teams were attempting the recovery. WT Senior Riley Moore went for the ball first but quickly went down with Bulldogs piling on top beginning with Sophomore Jimmy Branham and several others. It was just part of the game and nothing intentional, but when everyone was pulled off, Riley wasn’t moving. Moore was boarded up by the professionals medical personnel and lifted into the Payne ambulance, transporting him to the hospital. It was a nearly solemn event. How often does a big game go completely silent, all hoping for Riley to move–to lift himself off the grass?
The Raiders were clearly not in the game after their teammate was injured. The second quarter came and went with the Raiders only getting a touchback and adding two points, all while Edgerton piled on another 20 points. The first half ended 28-10 with the Bulldogs relishing their incredible lead over the powerful “Raider Nation”.
Coach Bill Speller motivated his team in the locker room for the second half.
The game started back up again with the home team down. The third quarter was like a ‘praise Jesus’ revival for Wayne Trace, topping the quarter with 24 points and the highest points of either team for points in a quarter. Seth Saylor, Daron Showalter and Tyler Showalter all scored touchdowns. Six more points of the 24 were added between Tyler Showater and David Sinn in endzone runs. The third quarter finished closer with the Raiders taking back the board at 28-34.
A CT scan revealed there was no major damage to Riley Moore after the injury and he ended up coming back to the game, though quite sore.
The fourth quarter began in favor of Edgerton. Two touchdowns in a row were scored by Edgerton, easily giving them the lead. On two different plays, David Sinn and Daron Showalter both received passes from Tyler Showalter for touchdowns, giving the lead back to the Raiders. Sailor and Dingus both added 4 points taking the game at 50-42.
Score by the Quarter:
Wayne Trace – 8 2 24 16=50
Edgerton – 8 20 0 14=42
The Bulldogs’ total yardage was 478 beating the Raiders’ 371. Raider Nation Football record is now 6-1. The Bulldogs are 3-4.
