The concept of Step Up Saturdays originated from Mayor Blair Milo, of La Porte Indiana. She had the idea to promote healthy lifestyles in Indiana by collaborating with agencies in every county across the state. The goal, to run 3, 5k’s per Saturday, every Saturday, beginning March 1st,, until she has completed her goal of doing 5k’s in every Indiana county by the end of the year. She is passionate about this goal and states, “the reasons for a healthier lifestyle goes beyond the general well-being of our citizens into the healthcare crisis that our country is facing and closer to home – to the economic prosperity of our communities.” Therefore, we invite people across the athletic spectrum to join us – from those barely willing to get off the couch to the marathon studs, for this Step Up movement happening in our community.
Join La Porte Mayor Blair Milo and New Haven Mayor Terry McDonald along with New Haven Parks and Recreation this coming Saturday, October 18th.
This fun, free 5k event will kick off at Moser Park, 601 Main Street at 3:00pm. To reduce intimidation, no registration is required and the route isn’t timed or even closed. This is just a fun community event that gets people moving and in turn makes them excited about their community.
