VAN WERT – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating a two vehicle injury crash that occurred on October 22nd at 9:55pm. The crash occurred on US 127 near State Route 709 in Van Wert County.
A southbound 2001 Ford Taurus driven by Kody Detwiler, age 24, of Ohio City, OH failed to maintain assured clear distance ahead striking the rear of a 2006 Honda Odyssey driven by Frederick Langner, age 67, of Dublin, OH.
After striking Mr. Langer’s vehicle Mr. Detwiler’s car continued off the east side of the roadway striking a house at 14913 US 127. Mr. Detwiler fled from the scene and was later located at the Van Wert County Hospital.
The residence sustained significant structural damage from the traffic crash and subsequent fire.
Assisting at the scene were the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, the Van Wert Police Department, Ohio City Fire & EMS, the Van Wert County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and Parker Mace Towing.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
