Wayne Trace went north of Defiance to take on the GMC champions for the first football game of sectionals. There is not much to say. The game was dominated by Tinora and turnovers plagued the Raiders.
This was no Cinderella story like last year for the Raider Nation team on their path to the state championship game.
There was lots of action from the beginning but mostly for the home team as they posted two seven pointers in the first quarter, holding the Raiders at bay.
Wayne Trace revived their play in the second with a 56 yard pass by Tyler Showalter to Seth Saylor. The Rams added one more on to the board by TJ Gares. David Sinn added the next touchdown with only 27 seconds left on the clock with a 21 yard pass from Showalter and the half finished at 20-14.
By the end of the third quarter, after the Rams added two more touchdowns and the Raider boys were feeling the pressure.
The first touchown of the fourth quarter was also added on by Tinora’s Brevin Renollet, who scored three of the tournament scores. The last touchdown for the Paulding team came from Jacob Dingus along with the team, and only 4 yards from the goal. Like the first goal, the last was scored by the home team.
The final score for the night was 47-20, sending Tinora to take on Spencerville after they defeated Crestview this same night.
Overall offensive stats were split strangely between the competitors. The Raiders had 25 first downs, Tinora 19. Passing yards had the Raiders in the lead at 333 to 187 for the Rams. Wayne Trace had 149 Rushing Yards while Tinora had 300, making this ground game winning the match. Total offensive yards were almost identical at 482 to 487 (Rams).
One major note was Jake Arend was able to join the game after missing the regular season from being injured in the scrimmage against Van Wert.
Score by quarter:
Wayne Trace: 0 14 0 6 = 20
Tinora 14 6 13 14 = 47
Wayne Trace finished their 2014 season 8-3 and the Rams are still undefeated at 11-0. Great season boys!
