The cross-state rivals faced off at the Antwerp gym on Tuesday, January 6. Let’s be honest, the game was slow. Both teams struggled for their place on the court.
The first quarter was led by Rain Hinton for Woodlan and Audrie Longardner for Antwerp. Both teams were nearly equally matched and finished the first period at 6 each.

By half time the game was only at 10 and 12 with the Woodlan girls in the lead. The basketball game was moving slowly by all accounts, and the coaches were desperate to gain the upper hand.
The third quarter was the least scoring for both teams and finished with only seven points for their combined efforts.

The fourth quarter for both teams was a whole other game. For the Lady Archers, it confirmed the win, scoring the same points as the previous three quarters combined. The period for Woodlan, though it was their highest scoring, was also the Achilles heel. The fouls allowed Antwerp to tie the game and take over on points after the shots from the line by Kiana Recker and Annie Miesle. Woodlan wasn’t the only one fouling, Antwerp put Warrior Kenzie Salzbrenner on the line who also hit 2 points. Kendra Graber also hit the guest team’s only 3 point basket in the last quarter.

The game finished with Antwerp gaining a small lead over the deficit from the earlier periods at 26-23.
