PAULDING:
A loving mother and servant of God, Ruth E. Fessel Hitchcock went home to her Lord on January 17, 2015.
She was born November 20, 1915 in Pierceton, Indiana, the daughter of Samuel and Nellie (Outcelt) Cormany. She was a graduate of Pierceton High School. Ruth married E. C. “Bud” Fessel in 1941 and lived in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Born to this union were four children: Patricia Fessel Luo, New York, Richard Fessel, Cape Coral, FL, Robert Fessel, Paulding, Ohio, Sharon Fessel Chopin, Knoxville, TN. The family moved to Paulding in 1958. Bud Fessel passed away in 1968 leaving Ruth to continue the family business, Fessel Jewelers. In 1973 she married J. Gareth Hitchcock, Common Plea Judge of Paulding County. He passed away in 1995. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding; Life member of John Paulding Historical Society; and Paulding Co. Hospital Auxiliary.
Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Whiteleather, Ft. Wayne, and Joan Water, Decatur, GA; eight grandchildren; two step grandsons, six great grandchildren; and stepson, Jim Hitchcock, Defiance, OH.
Others preceding her in death are stepson, David Hitchcock; three brothers: Dee, Donald and Paul; and two sisters: Mary and Sarah.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, January 24 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. Burial will be at a later date.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church; Gideons International; or John Paulding Historical Society.
