Ok so I am terrified. I am 50 years old and getting ready to start dating for the first time in about 30 years. I have invited a young lady out for our first date, and now I am stuck because I don’t know where to take her! Can you give me some good ideas for a first date? I don’t want to do the typical dinner and a movie option because I want to be able to get to know her and have a little fun. Help!!

Dear Dating Rookie,
First of all, congratulations for getting back in the field. You are sure to be in for a wonderful adventure!
So first, a good first date both allows for conversation and at the same time allows the opportunity to take the focus off the pressure to talk every moment (the dreaded awkward silence). So I would suggest date ideas that make a good balance between fun and conversation. Here are some ideas that I believe are a good balance! Have fun!
1. Okay, so it’s a little old school, but a bowling night gives the opportunity to both talk and play!
2. Go to an aquarium or a botanical garden!
3. Go to a theater. It is a step classier than the typical movie and gives a built in something to talk about after the show.
4. Go to see a local music show
5. If the weather is good, try out the driving range or even ice skating
6. Play tourist… there are always interesting local places and festivals to check out.
7. Find a place to eat where neither of you have been and experience something new together.
Blessings,
