First United Methodist Youth is hosting a “Drive By Shoe Drop Off” on Saturday, April 25 from 9am – 12pm at 113 W. Central Ave. in Van Wert.
You can drive up to the Central Street doors of the First United Methodist Church and we will come to your car and get your donated bags of shoes. Rain or shine we will be holding the shoe drop off. You won’t need to leave the comfort of your car.
We are partnering with Funds2Orgs to raise money for our summer mission trip and helping other people around the world while benefiting our community as well. By donating your gently worn, used shoes to the First Church Youth Group, your shoes are given a second chance to make a difference. All donated shoes will be redistributed to microenterprise partners through Funds2Orgs and used in developing nations for impoverished people to start, maintain, and grow a unique business opportunity to feed, clothe, and house their families. In the US alone, approximately 630 million pairs of shoes are thrown away per year. The materials used to manufacture a pair of shoes are created from chemical compounds that will create health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. Please donate your shoes and keep them out of our landfills. The youth group will be collecting shoes until the end of May, so if you don’t have your closets cleaned out before the drop off you can bring your shoes to the church anytime or call and we will pick them up.
