Bob Wurst, of Toledo, OH will be appearing in concert on April 25 at 7 pm, doors open at 6pm at the Rockford Belle, 135 Market Street, Rockford, OH. For more than 40 years, he has been engaging audiences by performing country music, 50’s and 60’s rock ‘n roll, and classic music from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Elvis and more! Wurst has shared concerts with acclaimed Country Music artists such as Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams Jr , Alabama, Billy Walker, Charley Walker, Bobby G Rice, and Narvel Feltz, and many, many more. Stage show promoter and WCSM Weekly Country Leisure Show Host Jim Highley will emcee the event.
Bob Wurst’s past performance highlights include winning talent contests and competitions from nationally known Buck Lake Ranch, Wrangler Country Star Search, and the State of Ohio division, which led to performances on stage at the Mother Church of country music’s Grand Ole Opry. Other contest highlights include Nashville Network’s “You Can Be a Star” and the “Lake Erie West People’s Choice Awards” netting Bob Wurst the “Country” award, winner of Male Vocalist, and top award “Entertainer of the Year”.
The band began recording in Nashville by this time and continued up until the year 2000 with the great fortune of recording a complete album with the Jordanaires and DJ Fontana, Elvis’ back-up vocalists and drummer. In the mid 80’s, his recorded song “She’s got the rhythm, I’ve got the blues”, enjoyed a mild success on the national record charts.
Through local legendary performer Gary Shope’s influence, Wurst’s band staffed Buck Lake Ranch of Angola, Indiana, and this became the musical backdrop to meeting many big name performers, and enhancing the band’s entertaining abilities. In 1983 a big thrill and musical career highlight for Bob came when asked to open for big name band “Alabama”. Over the years, the band would continue opening for some of the biggest names in country music, playing at fairs and festivals, and making countless TV appearances. They would play round and square dances for many local organizations and night clubs. When the circumstance presented itself, the band would play for benefits and fund raisers.
Since 2003 Wurst has enjoyed a new side of his career playing solo and implementing technology. He continues to entertain at dances, Classic car shows, parties and festivals.
Long time friend and entertainer Jim Highley will emcee for the evening’s performance. Jim is now retired after having served since 1977 as an elected official in Mercer County as the Clerk of Courts. He is a businessman, stage show manager and promoter, and is best known for emceeing events and as the WCSM radio program personality of “The Weekly Country Leisure Show.” Jim has been a patron and entertainer at the entertainment venue on many prior occasions and looks forward to having a great time as emcee at the Rockford Belle!
