That is where the Antwerp Chamber of Commerce is hosting the annual Day in the Park.
These festivities start at 11:00 a.m. and honor the 2015 Gem of the Year – Bill Fish, city employee and continue until around 4:00 p.m.

Antwerp is set for A Day in the Park!
Final preparations are underway for everyone to have a great time at Riverside Park on August 8. The weather has cooperated in drying the grounds to allow us to keep our celebration at the park. Kicking off the day will be the parade at 10:00 a.m. beginning at the football field and continuing through the downtown. Opening ceremonies at the park will begin with the flag raising at 11:00 a.m., our Antwerp High School band will be playing our National Anthem.
Next, will be opening comments from Mayor Tom Van Vlerah before the presentation of the 2015 Antwerp Gem award from the Antwerp Chamber of Commerce. This year’s winner is everyone’s friend, Bill Fish.
We have a variety of everyone’s favorite entertainment including our local Dance Dolls, Community Band, Paulding County K-9 Unit demonstration and plus some new local talent from a teen band known as “Distraction” playing a variety of music. New this year will be Morgan Bland a terrific violinist from Hicksville.
There will also be presentation by Woodburn’s Indiana Wildlife and some time to get acquainted “hands on” with some of our wild furry friends. Johnny from the Tin Caps will be back greeting the youngsters through out the park.
Larry Copsey and Dan Bowers will be lining up the cruise-in at the front of the park, so bring out your classic car and show it off to everyone.
We will have demonstrations by our local tumblers, kids activities and face painting, information being shared by local churches and organizations and a chalk walk everyone of all ages can participate in and enjoy plus bargain prices on a book sale by the library. Also several crafters will be present with products they have been working hard to create.
And, of course, there is food! Something for everyone! If you enjoy hot dogs, brats, funnel cakes, ice cream, walking tacos, curly fries, funnel cakes, Monte Cristo sandwiches and baked goods of all kinds this will be the place to be. Or have a lemon shake up or snow cone to cool off!
The Chamber will also host a 50/50 drawing at approximately 3:45 p.m. We will then close the day with the flag burning ceremony by the Antwerp Boy Scouts and Antwerp VFW. Be sure to bring your old flags for the proper disposal at this moving ceremony.
As always, we do ask that you leave your pets at home where they will be safer and happier on an August day.
Come out and enjoy Antwerp’s beautiful park and visit with your friends while supporting our local organizations.
Antwerp Friends of the Library collecting books for Day in the Park
Antwerp Friends of the Library will be collecting gently used books for their table at Day in the Park. If you have stacks of books at home that are just in the way & want to put them to good use—why not donate them to the Friends of the Library?! Books can be dropped off any time between now and Friday afternoon at the Antwerp library during regular business hours. The Friends group supports the Antwerp Branch of the Paulding County Carnegie Library by providing books for the Summer Reading programs and helping upgrade the facility like the new carpet that was installed a few years ago.
Two ways to participate in Antwerp’s Chalk Walk!
There are two ways chalk artists can participate in the “Here’s Antwerp” Chalk Walk activities for Day in the Park. The first way would be to put your creations on any of three sizes of black construction paper (8.5 × 11, 11 × 17 or 17 × 22). A tub of basic colored chalk will be provided or you may bring your own. Final products will be displayed for everyone to admire. Typically, this activity is completed during the Day in the Park on August 8th. There is no charge for this activity.
The second form for creating a chalk-a-ganza is to purchase a 2 ft. by 2 ft. board. Same theme—“Here’s Antwerp” but there is a cost for a board. There is a discount if a receipt is provided (dated after July 15th) for the purchase of $10 or more from a local Antwerp business. As the art work is completed, please call 419-233-6699 for information on how to display your work in local business windows, or simply bring your work to Day in the Park. Board based chalk art work will be made available for sale during the silent action.
For information on all of the chalk art activities please call 419-233-6699.
