MELROSE:
Richard L. Stroup, age 79, died Sunday, August 23, 2015.
He was born June 2, 1936 in Defiance, Ohio, the son of the late Viola (Beard) Stroup. On October 17, 1959 he married Janet P. (Schlegel), who survives. He was a US Army veteran during the Korean War and retired in 1995 from GM Powertrain, Defiance. He was a member of UAW #211; Oakwood American Legion Post #341; Lifetime member of AMA; and former Steel-Steeds Motorcycle Club. He was Melrose Town Marshall from 1969 – 1974, a member of Melrose Town Council, and Special Deputy of Paulding County Sheriff Dept. He was an avid bowler, NASCAR fan, Green Bay Packers fan, and Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
Richard is also survived by a daughter, Tabbie (Brad) Bair, Melrose; grandson, Jordan Bair; brothers, Billy (Wendy) Stephey, Paulding, Jimmy (Mary) Stephey, Oakwood; and sister, Margie Fortney, Malinta, OH.
He is also preceded in death by daughter, Corinna L. Stroup Miller; grandson, Jacob Bair; and brother, Larry Stephey.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Friday, August 28 at Auglaize Chapel Church of God, Oakwood. Burial will follow in Hedges Cemetery, Paulding County, with military graveside rites accorded by Oakwood American Legion and Paulding VFW.
Visitation will be 2 – 8 PM Thursday, August 27 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Paulding Hospice/Visiting Nurses or Auglaize Chapel Church of God Food Pantry.
