On today’s mission, we were to go to the Stuttgart, Germany area. Some of the free-French told us there might be a launching pad area over that way for the German V-2 Rocket that is causing so much trouble for the English at London. For the first 300 miles, we were up to about 8,000 ft. altitude to save gas. Then, we dropped down to ground level to escape the radars because we know this place will be well-protected by anti-aircraft fire.
After we crossed the city of Baden-Baden, we followed the Auto Bahn to the north about 20 miles, and that is Stuttgart. Our target was on the northwest part of town, probably right where the rockets are made. Now, if this is a launching spot, it will be protected by a lot of German planes as well as anti-aircraft batteries.
We will only be able to make one pass as there will be Krauts all over the place. Over the radio came, “Drop your extra fuel tanks and test your guns. Drop your speed down to about 250mph. Do the best you can and good luck! After you make the pass, you might be on your own, so head back to Anthony.”
It looked like there were five launching pads, each one had a V-2 Rocket in place. I took the one on the extreme right end. There were tracers from anti-aircraft units all over. I concentrated on the rocket and touched off two of my rockets. Nothing happened. In a split second, I could figure that I missed that tower.
I know I didn’t. By then, I was passed the area and on my own at about 500 ft. looking for my buddies. We all headed for Paris and our base at Anthony. There was a lot of talking over the radio. Everybody talked at once. We made one pass through that area and then made a big circle and headed back to Paris. I guess none of our planes got hurt today.
I guess that area was a camouflaged area to look like a launching site. I guess we knocked down some of their towers, but those so-called rockets were made of paper or canvas to look like V-2 Rockets. Yes, we were duped, and we fell for it. But, we did get some of their towers. We made a long trip for almost nothing.

Senior Center and the Fall Elections
By: Stan Jordan
One time back in 1775, on one of my trips to Boston, Ben Franklin told me that the Fall Elections would always be the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. We have had some odd-ball elections, but that is a good way to remember the election dates.
I talked with a member of the Paulding County Election Board this morning and he told me that on the fall election, there will be an issue for the Senior Center. He said it is not a new issue, nor is it a renewal. It is a replacement levy. Then, he went on to explain that a replacement is what the tax base was at the time of enactment and what the tax base is now. It could be a little amount or no amount at all. But, probably a little amount as the tax base has increased in the last few years.
The Senior Center is a very nice place for the old folks here in Paulding County. It does a number of things for the older generation, supplying Meals on Wheels is so very helpful, but is only one of the only things it does. I have visited the center a number of times and it is always helpful, friendly and satisfying. Marsha Yeutter is a very capable manager. I don’t think the issue will cost anyone so very much, and I think it deserves to be passed.
