The Fraternal Order of Eagles was opened to the public on Tuesday, October 13 for the Democratic Party of Paulding County to host the 2015 Meet the Candidates. Many guests were there for the dinner provided and to meet the candidates and hear the issues that are on the ballot this November.
Frances Strickland gave an exclusive interview to the West Bend News explaining how her husband, Ted, came through life to be elected as governor.
They have celebrated being married for 28 years. They first met in college at the University of Kentucky while both were studying Psychology.
Ted’s current challenge is “Running for Senate.” Frances is originally from Kentucky.
Ted became interested in politics during the Watergate trials. He felt compelled to enter the arena when he saw the head counsel failing to ask the questions that would have been quick and decisive for everyone involved.
After graduating from college, Strickland became a pastor for a Methodist church in Portsmouth, Ohio and following that, served in a children’s home as administrator while also teaching at Shawnee State University.
He served in the House of Representatives for between 1993 and 1995 and then again from 1997-2007 when he ran for governor. He served as the leader of Ohio before being narrowly defeated by current governor John Kasich.
Currently, Strickland is running for Senate to represent Ohio in the Washington DC.
Others who spoke at the event included Sarah Noggle representing the very small levy that has huge benefits for the OSU Extension including 4H. The other speakers were the Superintendent of Vantage and the Mayoral candidates for Paulding (Greg Reinhart and Jim Guelde).
The host of the event was Roger Sierer and the Master of Ceremonies was Jason Landers.
