On Saturday, November 7th, all the months and months of training and practicing culminated for two Antwerp High School seniors at the OHSAA State Cross Country tournament in Hebron, OH. As the frost was melting in the morning sun, teams and runners from all across the state descended upon the course for warm ups.
The girls’ divisions began the late morning events at 11:00 a.m. just as the air was beginning to warm. The boys concluded the afternoon with Division I racing at 3:00 p.m. Sam Williamson and Erik Buchan came to their last high school starting line at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Division III category. These boys both have had an amazing journey in cross country through their junior high and high school careers. This race was a crowning achievement to put in their record books as the last of many for both of them this year. Sam came across the finish line in the 2nd place slot at 15:36.7, while Erik came in at the 47th slot at 16:52.9.
Coach Cord Ehrhart has been a constant support for these boys and the entire team this season. After the accolades bestowed upon him and the team this fall, he had this to say, “Thank you all for the kind words and support this XC season. I’m very proud of what our kids have accomplished!”
