The game Saturday, November 28 at Wayne Trace boys basketball competed in their first game of the season against Liberty Center Tigers. The game was off to an intense start when senior Cole Shepherd tipped the ball to his team. Alec Vest was on fire in the first quarter. Between baskets and steals, he kept the Tigers on their toes. In all, he made seven points from the line, 2 3-point baskets and 3 2 pointers. The first quarter finished 18-10 in the Raiders favor. Watching the Raider defense is very entertaining, keeping the game on their side of the court.
The second quarter reversed trends and Liberty Center scored more than the home team did in the first and the half ended in a very close match at 32-30 with Wayne Trace barely holding on to their lead.
The second half started up and the Raiders were back in the drivers seat pulling off 23 points with help from Cole Shepherd under the basket, leading in rebounds and also having 18 points altogether. The third quarter ended with the Raiders in the lead 55-43.
A turn for the worse in the fourth for the home team when the Tigers outscored home boys by 5 points, but it wasn’t enough to take home the win. The Raiders won the match 69-62, setting Wayne Trace up for a great season and giving Coach Jim Linder his 100th victory since he began eight years ago.
