The Indianapolis Colts are proud to announce Jennifer Heffernan, a New Haven, Ind. resident, as a 2015 honoree of the Colts Anthem Angels program, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Heffernan was be recognized at the Colts home game this Sunday, January 3, 2016, for her outstanding contributions to the community.
Heffernan has served her community as a teacher for the past 20 years. She currently teaches algebra, tutors students and coaches volleyball at East Allen County Schools. Jennifer has a passion for her students and strives to support them in every way possible. Heffernan is also a certified Volunteer Firefighter I/II and EMT with the New Haven Adams Township Fire Department and often substitutes for full time firefighters.
Heffernan’s nominator highlighted a story from February 2015 where Jennifer was contacted in the middle of the night by a student. The student was in need of a place to live after being forced to leave her residence. Jennifer took both the student and her twin sister into her own home. Jennifer helped guide these girls throughout the remainder of their senior year both academically and personally. Each of young women have since graduated from high school and are currently attending college.
“Anthem Angels…Honoring Everyday Heroes” was established by the Indianapolis Colts and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield to pay tribute to Hoosier “First Respondents” who may have received little or no recognition for the strides they have made to help others in human-service related professions.
In honor of Heffernan’s heroism, she will receive four (4) VIP Club Seat Tickets to the Colts game, a feature story with her photo in the Colts game-day magazine (the Scout) and on www.colts.com, as well as on-field recognition at the game.
