Ray DeLong represented the Antwerp VFW and presented a check from the VFW Foundation on Wednesday June 8 to the Antwerp Rotary Club, who is taking charge of rebuilding the tennis court near the Antwerp City Hall. This project that the Antwerp Rotary Club has been working on is costing $26,500. This tennis court has been around for many years and it is finally being rebuilt. It’s heavily used by community folk during the summer. The VFW Foundation check for $1,000 was a gift made possible through a grant. Rotarian Floyd Ramsier stated, “The community has been very much behind this reconstruction of the court.” The funds were applied for, and then received from the VFW Foundation Community Service Grant. It was very much an appreciated part of this project. The original court was located at Riverside Park where the Veteran’s Memorial currently stands. Sometime after WWII the court was moved to beside City Hall according to local historian, Stan Jordan. The concrete was poured last week (June 6 and June 9) and is coming along nicely and will be playable soon. The construction is being handled by Nick Longardner. Donations such as this make a big difference in being able to maintain and expand community well-being. For more information, please contact Sonja Herber or Floyd Ramsier at 419-258-2191.
