A recreational public health advisory remains in place for the Maumee River in Paulding County. Swimming and wading in the Maumee River is not recommended for children, pregnant or nursing women, those with certain medical conditions and pets. If you have been in contact with water from the Maumee River, rinse your skin immediately. Symptoms of exposure to a harmful algal bloom include: rash, hives, blisters, severe diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. If you have had had contact with water in the Maumee River and are displaying these symptoms seek medical care. Paulding County Health Department is collaborating with local partners and state partners to stay on top of harmful algal blooms. Bill Edwards, of the Paulding County Health Department, relays “Our priority is the safety and well-being of Paulding County residents. We will make sure the public is aware of the steps we will be taking to stay on top of the situation.
