Larry Allen Coomer, 68, of New Haven, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Larry was born on February 22, 1948 in Fort Wayne, IN, the first born son of Richard and Donna (Scholstrate) Coomer. His father preceded him in death on December 14, 1967 at age 39, while his mother still survives.
In 1963, Larry met Becky Hart at a Valentine’s Day Dance. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1965 at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and recently celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary.
Larry was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven.
Larry was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Indiana State Farmers Union where he served as the president for five years.
Larry enjoyed sharing all the activities involving his grandchildren. Larry was the consummate family man…being active in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He involved his children and grandchildren in his love of farming by having them become an active part of the farm…which meant the world to him.
Larry is survived by his wife, Becky Coomer of New Haven, IN; daughters, Laurie (Tom) Miller of Fort Wayne, IN; Lisa (Brian) Castleman of New Haven, IN; and Linda (Kenton) Kleine of Hoagland, IN; son, Larry R. (Kim) Coomer of Monroeville, IN; mother, Donna Coomer of Woodburn, IN; two brothers, Dan (Deb) Coomer of Woodburn, IN and Steve (Karan) Coomer of Monroeville, IN; and 13 grandchildren, Austin Miller; Cody Miller; Alex Miller; Audrey Kleine; Grant Kleine; Brooke Kleine; Adam Castleman; Luke Castleman; Lydia Castleman; Kelsey Coomer; Makayla Coomer; Sydney Coomer; and Wyatt Coomer.
Larry was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amelia Castleman on November 4, 2012 at 18 years of age.
The Rite of Christian Burial for Larry will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2016 in the Emanuel Lutheran Church – New Haven, 800 Green Street, New Haven, IN with Rev. Paul Shoemaker officiating. Interment will follow the services at Lehman Cemetery in Payne, OH. Friends and family will be received from 1-7 p.m. on Thursday in the Emanuel Lutheran Church – New Haven.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to be made to Amelia Helps Foundation (non-profit organization created in honor of Larry’s granddaughter, focused on helping the less fortunate) or Central Lutheran Building Fund.
