Today, campaign committees will file their Semiannual Campaign Finance Report. Statute requires this report be filed no later than the final business day of July each year. Here is some information to help you gather and report on this information:
What information will be included on the report?
All activity through June 30, 2016 and beginning at the time of the committee’s last report.
This does not include:
· A committee that was required to file a post-primary election report (only those where the committee’s candidate or issue appeared on the March 15, 2016 Primary Election ballot).
· Committees and candidates for judicial office.
· Committees and candidates for non-statewide, non-county or non-judicial office (Example: Mayor, City Council, Township Trustee, etc.) are not required to file a semiannual report unless both of the following apply:
o Received, during the semiannual reporting period, contributions exceedingten thousand dollars.
o Did not file a post-primary election report.
Where are the reports filed?
All statewide and state legislative candidates, committees and PACs file their reports with the Secretary of State’s office. Those reports are available online here. All county and municipal level candidates, committees and PACs file their reports with the appropriate county board of elections. A directory of county boards of elections is available onlinehere.
When must the report be filed?
Today, Friday, July 29, 2016 by 4:00 p.m.
What report will be due next?
Candidates appearing on the November 8, 2016 General Election ballot and committees supporting a candidate or issue for that election will be required to file a Pre-General Campaign Finance Report on October 27, 2016. Other candidates and committees will be required to file their 2016 Annual Report on January 31, 2017.
