11 year old Taylor Diestch of Edgerton Cub Scout Pack 29 recently competed in the Pinewood Derby World Championship competition at Times Square in New York City. Taylor and his dad, Jason worked diligently and precisely for Taylor’s last year of eligibility in this nationally renowned race.
“Last Chance” was the name christened to the finished race car that Taylor and his father hand crafted together. They went to great lengths to earn this very prestigious award, from weights to the dryness of the wood taking the duo over two months to complete the car.
“Last Chance” had a top speed recorded at 230mph. The car’s eight best runs earned them a score of 24.0001 which in turn guaranteed them the championship trophies. There were hundreds of competitors from all over the United States in New York for the big race day.
Taylor reflected on the experience with, “It felt pretty cool that you were sitting in the middle of Times Square and you were the center of attention there because you just won it… you couldn’t go through the crowd without someone saying, ‘Congratulations, you won!’”
