On Saturday, August 20, the Lady Panthers hosted the Antwerp Archers for the first in county competition of the fall season.
The Junior Varsity followed the freshman game (Freshman – Antwerp over Paulding 25-18, 25-8) and the Paulding team performed very well. The girls easily won over Antwerp with Paulding taking the early lead and holding on to it the entire match, winning over Antwerp 25-16 and 25-14, not even needing a 3rd set.
The varsity game was very intense. The Paulding field house was more than full with the bleachers that were pulled out. There were just as many Antwerp fans as there were Panthers here.
In the varsity match the first game easily went to Antwerp 25-10. The second match looked like it was going to Antwerp when they took a 13-point lead when they started with the momentum they had earned from the first game. As it continued on and the game was nearing the end, the Archers stalled and the Lady Panthers came back and sent the game into overtime. The last serve was able to send the Panthers to the top with a two point lead 24-26.
Antwerp took back the wins in the next two sets: 25-19, 25-17.
