James “Roger” Harris
June 7th, 1939 – September 17th, 2016
Roger Harris, 77, of Churubusco died on Saturday, September 17th, 2016 at Parkview Regional Hospital while surrounded by his family. He was born in Detroit, MI in 1939 and spent his childhood years in New Haven. He graduated from New Haven High School in 1957. He had been a resident of Churubusco since 1978.
In 1998, he retired from The Kmart Distribution Center after forty years of dedicated service. He worked as a forklift operator, in quality control, shipping & receiving.
Roger enjoyed sports, music, wildlife and spending time with his family. His surviving spouse of 50 years is Rose Harris of Churubusco. Also surviving are his sons Michael (Wendy) Harris of Fort Wayne, Jim (Carrie) Harris of Churubusco, his daughter, Sue (Brian) Salomon of Fort Wayne, his brother, Russell G. Harris of Churubusco, his step-brother Richard (Jane) Oexmann of Roswell, GA. Nine grandchildren Ryan, Karisa, Tori, Lane, Aaron, Jeff, Mason, Christian and Summer. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Elnora (Bowlin) Harris, his sister Carole (Dale) Meyer and step-mother, Jolane Harris.
Services are being held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at noon at Faith Lutheran Church, 9251 E State Rd 205, in Churubusco with Pastor Lane Burgland officiating. The viewing will be held two hours prior to the service. Burial will be at Eel River Cemetery in Churubusco. Memorials are to: The Smith Township Fire Department or Cancer Services of NE Indiana.
