The Paulding County Carnegie Library recently sponsored a “Penmanship Contest”. “We are concerned that students not being taught cursive writing anymore. Many school systems are removing cursive or penmanship from their elementary curriculums,” shared Susan Pieper, Library Director. “There are so many documents and historical and family letters students will not be able to read if they do not learn cursive, and although many of the documents are being scanned for digital access, they are being scanned in their original format, many of which are in cursive.”

The library categorized the competition into age groups. The sentence that was to be transcribed for judging was the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence.  Over fifty entries were received from throughout the county.
