This year the first grade teachers at Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary are changing the way they teach Reading. First, they are using some familiar and some unfamiliar books to teach Reading. With a PTO donation of $900 the first grade teachers have been able to increase the number of books in their classroom library. By using books that the students are excited about reading, the first grade teachers believe the students will engage in the learning of new skills and strategies. This process is new to the students, but already the students’ excitement is noticeable. When it comes time for the students to select their books – they’re literally on the edge of their seat and ready to select their new stack of books. Again, a big thank you goes out to the PTO for their generous donation.
