Saturday, September 24, the Lady Hawks varsity volleyball team traveled to Wabash Indiana to play in Emmanuel Christian’s volleyball tournament. The Hawks played the first game at 9:00 a.m. against Emmanuel Christian.
The Lady Hawks won the first match in 2 sets with a score of 25-13 and 25-13. Then the Lady Hawks played right away against Emmanuel Baptist Academy. The Hawks won again in 2 sets with a score of 25-10, and 25-10. After that match the Lady Hawks had a break while Emmanuel Christian and Emmanuel Baptist had to play twice.
Emmanuel Christian won both games against EBA. This now put Emmanuel Christian against the Lady Hawks. The Lady Hawks were a little tired, and Emmanuel Christian definitely put up a good fight. The Hawks were still able to pull out a win in 3 sets. Harlan won the first set with a score of 25-16, the second set was won by Harlan as well with a score of 25-18. In the last set the Lady Hawks struggled, but pulled out the win with a score of 25-22. Winning this match made the Harlan Lady Hawks tournament champions for the first time in the history of the volleyball program.
Three ladies from Harlan Christian were named to the all-tourney team, Heidi Johnson, Julia Troyer and Faith Shenkel.
Samantha Ludwig: 12 kills, 3 assists, 20 serves 4 aces and 1 block
Heidi Johnson: 10 kills, 23 serves, 1 assist and 40 digs
Faith Shenkel: 12 kills, 46 assists, 20 digs, 39 serves and 4 aces
Julia Troyer: 33 serves, 3 aces, 4 kills, 18 digs and 62 assists.
