Mr. Scott Welch, EACS teacher and his students volunteer at least once each week at the Community Harvest Food Bank. They usually help at the south location where the students learn employable skills and gain valuable volunteer work experiences. In the warehouse area they sort incoming donations into the various food categories. When they work in the Community Cupboard, the grocery store section, they stock shelves with non-perishable goods. They also stock perishable foods in the cooler and frozen meats in the freezer. Recently the students have been given the opportunity to volunteer at Community Harvest’s north location at the blanching facility. There the students bag fresh vegetables so that the vegetables may be frozen and saved for times when fresh produce is not available for the clientele of Community Harvest Food Bank.
In October, Mr. Welch and the students were honored as ‘Volunteers of the Month’ by Community Harvest Food Bank representatives!
