Several of Wayne Trace’s art classes recently participated in a field trip to the Toledo Museum of Art where they took part in a variety of activities. Through the generous support of a museum scholarship, ten WT students were able to take part in a glass workshop. While learning about the science of glassblowing, these Senior Studio art students worked with professional artists in TMA’s Glass Pavilion to create their own glass pieces to take home.
As part of another grant, the Miss Gawronski joined the 8th Grade art class to participate in a STEAM tour of the museum collection, learning more about a variety of works in the collection. Building on past projects and the new works of art that they saw during their visit, these talented 8th graders look forward to continuing to explore ways to connect science with the arts.
Leah Maassel who is currently taking Wayne Trace’s first ever Art History class, East Asian Art, was joined by Senior art student Ethan Dunham to go behind the scenes of the museum with Courtney Macklin, TMA’s Works on Paper Curatorial Assistant. In the print Study Room, Leah and Ethan had the opportunity to take a closer look at several Japanese kimono stencils made of paper and several woodblock prints while learning more about the conservation and collection efforts of the museum as they relate to East Asian Art.
These WT classes received a number of compliments from the TMA staff on their high level of participation in the activities at the museum–we are truly grateful to have such wonderful kids! Our art students would like to thank the Toledo Museum of Art and the Wayne Trace administration for providing them with the opportunity to spend the day at the museum, building on their visual literacy skills and bringing art to life!
