Convoy, OH – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating a serious injury motor vehicle crash on US 30 Westbound at Convoy Rd in Van Wert County.
On December 22, 2016 at 10:26 AM, a 2007 Chrysler driven by Betty Wyandt, 87, of Van Wert was eastbound on Convoy Rd. She crossed over US 30 Eastbound and failed to yield to a Westbound 2007 Chevrolet 4 door driven by Margaret Lyons, 54, of Payne, OH. The Lyons vehicle struck the Wyandt vehicle in the intersection of US 30 Westbound and Convoy Rd.
The Wyandt vehicle came to rest on the right lane of US 30 Westbound and the Lyons vehicle went off the northwest corner of the intersection of US 30 and Convoy Rd, stopping at a right of way fence.
Mrs. Wyandt was transported by Convoy EMS to Parkview Regional Medical Center. Her passenger, Bonnie Speelman, age 85, of Convoy, was taken by Scott EMS to Van Wert County Hospital. Mrs. Speelman was later flown by Samaritan to Parkview.
Mrs. Lyons and her six year-old passenger were taken to Van Wert County Hospital by Van Wert EMS. Mrs. Lyons was later taken to Parkview by Samaritan’s Mobile ICU. Her 6 year-old passenger was flown by Samaritan to Parkview.
Seatbelts were in use during the crash. However, the six year-old child was not properly restrained in a child booster seat.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Convoy Volunteer Fire and EMS, Van Wert EMS, Scott EMS, the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Superior Collision and Knippen’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
