Last week Edgerton hosted the girls basketball Route 49 tournament. This week Antwerp was the host for the boys classic with Edon, Edgerton, Hicksville, and Antwerp.
The first game was on Thursday, December 29th, and the finals were on December 30. Antwerp and Hicksville won the first set and therefore competed on Friday night.
The first quarter was slow for both teams. Logan Thiel scored a 2 and 3 point basket for the Aces. Antwerp on the other hand had a 3 pointer by Brandon Pendergrast and Matt Jones. The first period ended in a low scoring match at 8-7.
The second period was interesting for the Archers. They rocketed ahead with points by Cole Seslar but then towards the end the Aces’ Logan Thiel eroded the Archers’ points away to the point where the half time score was only 19-17.
The second half was a completely different game period. The Aces may not have scored that much but Payton Tunis started his scoring. He added 3 2-point field goals and a free throw. It doesn’t seem like that much but they kept the Archers from scoring—only four total.
The fourth period Hicksville scored just about as many points as as they did the entire rest of the game. Antwerp tried but couldn’t get the ball in. Honestly though, Antwerp did pretty well as it was their highest scoring quarter. It just couldn’t compete against Hicksville’s powerhouse period. The game finished 52-37. Both teams did a great job!
Score by Quarter:
Antwerp: 8 11 4 14 = 37
Hicksville: 7 10 10 25 = 52
