Austin Fancher scored 15 points and the Woodlan Warriors captured the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament title for the 12th time in school history with a 35-32 win over Heritage at South Adams High School Saturday. The ACAC is the oldest conference in Indiana—94 years in the making.
The Warriors also got a big effort from Tre’Von McCarter, who sparked the Warriors with seven consecutive fourth quarter points before finishing with nine in the stanza and the game.
Heritage jumped in front early in the contest, leading 10-5 with just under two minutes remaining in the opening quarter before six straight Woodlan points made it 11-10 Warriors after eight minutes of action.
The Patriots answered with 9 of the 14 second quarter points to take a 19-16 lead at halftime before Woodlan tied the game at 23-23 entering the final period.
Rylie Schane paced Heritage with 13 points and Abram Beard chipped in ten.
Aaron Hahn, who scored seven points on Saturday after bucketing 14 in the semifinal win over Southern Wells, was named the tournament’s Hilliard Gates Most Valuable Player. Hilliard Gates was a constant supporter of Indiana Basketball and is the announcer in the movie “Hoosiers”. He announced the ACAC tournament for over 41 years of the televised tournaments at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
Woodlan defeated Southern Wells 64-43 on Frida as the Warriors jumped on top 22-2 after one quarter.
The Warriors opened a 39-11 halftime advantage and stretched it to 58-22 at the end of three quarters.
Fancher paced Woodlan with 16 points while Micah Robbins added nine.
The Warriors return to action on Friday as they visit Heritage.
In the previous game, Southern Wells fell to the Warriors by a pretty big margin.
