It’s not every day that dreams come true, but for one Woodlan student, it did. On Friday, February 10th, Rain Hinton signed with Albion University to play basketball. Albion offered Hinton a full ride scholarship to play for the team, an exciting and sought after opportunity by many young basketball players.
It was a very exciting day for Rain. Her mother, Tanya Oberkiser, sat beside her, glowing with pride, as Hinton signed the papers, affirming her status with Albion University. Hinton’s Coach, Gary Cobb, her teammates, and friends were all present as well and cheered for her. Adding to the excitement, two of the local television broadcasting stations sent cameramen out as well to give recognition to the hard work and achievements of Hinton.
When interviewed, Rain told the media that she had been looking at other universities, but in the end, it was Albion that offered her the best options. When asked about the position that she would fill on the team, Hinton said that she would most likely be a post, but the coach also said that she might assist with shooting and fill a spot as an outside guard. She also told the media how it felt great to be able to sign with a school and go to college. Her family was incredibly proud, and she noted that the best part was that it would be free. Hinton emphasized that if it had not been free, then she would not have been able to go to college.
We are so happy for Rain Hinton that she was able to take this opportunity, and we wish her the best of luck as she continues with her education and athletic ability.
