WOODLAN – The Woodlan boys basketball team picked up a pair of easy home victories last week as the Warriors rolled past visiting Antwerp and Southern Wells to improve to 12-7 on the season.
On Tuesday, Woodlan outscored the visiting Archers 33-18 in the middle two quarters to pull away for a 66-47 victory.
The Warriors held a slim 15-12 advantage after eight minutes of action before putting up 14 second quarter points to Antwerp’s nine as Woodlan took a 29-21 advantage at the break.
Woodlan added to the lead in the third quarter by scoring 19 points and extending the margin to 48-30 at the end of three quarters.
Austin Fancher led five Warrior players in double figures with 15 points and Josh Gerig added 14 for the Warriors. Jack Rhoades chipped in 11 for the Indiana squad with Ah’lan Howard and Aaron Hahn posting ten each.
Matthew Elias and Micah Robbins chipped in three points each for Woodlan.
Fancher also hit a trio of 3-pointers with Elias, Robbins and Rhoades adding one each.
Luke Brewer topped the Archers’ efforts with a dozen points and Matt Jones added 11.
Trey Mills (8), Keaton Altimus (7), Cole Seslar (4), Ty Rebber (3) and Brandon Pendergrast (2) also scored for Antwerp.
Hahn grabbed a dozen rebounds and added 4 assists and 2 sThiels for Woodlan. Howard chipped in 4 boards, 5 assists and a pair of sThiels. Fancher and Rhoades dished out 3 assists each with Fancher also posting 3 sThiels.
Woodlan also captured the junior varsity contest, defeating the Archers 57-49.
The Warriors followed up their victory over Antwerp by posting a 64-43 win over Southern Wells on Friday.
Woodlan outscored the visiting Raiders 38-18 in the middle 2 quarters to break the game open and cruise to the victory.
The Warriors led 14-13 after 1 quarter before taking a 28-23 halftime advantage. Woodlan then widened the margin to 52-31 at the end of 3 periods.
Fancher paced the way for Woodlan with 21 points while Hahn added 14 and Deontae Biggs chipped in 11. Gerig (8), Howard (6), Robbins (3) and Trevor Wiedenhoeft (1) also scored for Woodlan.
The Warriors return to action tonight when they visit Eastside before traveling to Norwell on Saturday.
