The Antwerp Ladies basketball hosted the Apaches on Thursday, February 16. If Antwerp would win, the ladies would take home the Green Meadows Conference Title. Both of the teams in the conference have had played 6 matches of the conference and this was the final. Fairview had a 2-4 record and the Archers was at 5-1.
This game started with both teams being competitive in the first period. Fairview’s Allison Vetter was at 6 points with 3 field goals and Mercedes Wagner was close behind with 2 field goals. Katie Crites was fouled and she chipped in both from the charity line. Antwerp’s stat sheet was a little more one sided. Emilee Phillips earned a field goal but it was Rachel Williamson who set her own record. She tapped 10 points in this period with 2 three pointers and 2 field goals. The first period finished tied at 12.
The second fired up even more for the home team. Hope Smith got tacked on a field goal and was fouled scoring that point too. Karsyn Brumett hit a 3 pointer. It was Williamson who was on fire. She nailed 3 more 3 point field goals in a row. The half finished 30-21.
Coming back from the half, the Archers stopped the Apaches’ scorers. They only added 2 more points. Antwerp, on the other side, had Williamson and Brumett both tackling another 3 point basket. Peyton Short was also on her second field goal and 3 pointer. Antwerp closed out the third with 41-23.
Neither team did much in the fourth period except defense. They both scored only four points. Rachel was fouled and added both of those points to have her personal record of 25 points! Fantastic! Maggie Wilson posted her first points of the game when she scored on a rebound shot.
The final score was Antwerp 45, Fairview 27.
